MONTROSE.   Owner/chef Mark Cox originally honed his craft at chic Tony's and now makes a name for himself at this eponymous restaurant. Occupying a former church, Mark's boasts striking architecture, golden hues, and palpable elegance. Dishes offer an innovative twist on classics, as evidenced by bourbon-glazed pork tenderloin, five pepper-crusted Scottish salmon, lamb loin with basil sauce, and grilled ahi tuna medallions. Great wines and an appealing bar add to the wonderful experience.   (© 10Best)

This 1920's church-turned-dining room serves delicious dishes such as five pepper-crusted Scottish salmon, heavenly appetizers, and many other offerings worthy of praise. (from Southern Living)

If you want elegance and a real dining experience, go to Mark's. The ambience is incredible, the food delicious and the drinks are some of the most creative and fun served up in Houston. Try the Tickler (champagne, vodka and sweet wine)...yum yum. It is costly to dine at Mark's but again, well worth it for special occassions and to entertain out of town guests. Mark's should be rated first or second in this list.

I found the "church" atmosphere to be interesting but not my first choice when thinking of a fine dining motif. The service was wonderful however a menu was pre-arranged for our large group. Upon arrival the waiters/chef knew nothing about it. The sea bass was extremely bland. Although I enjoyed the dining experience, I would not recommend Mark's to a friend.
