EDITOR REVIEW: GUYANDOTTE. Of Huntington's historic homes, Madie Carrol House has, perhaps, the most intriguing history. Legend has it that, around 1810, James Gallaher purchased the home in Gallipolis, Ohio, and had it transported via flatboat to a lot in Guyandotte. Not until the 1850s did the home fall into the hands of the Carroll Family, who operated it as an inn for several years. In 1973, the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and, in the mid-'80s, turned over to the city, restored, and opened as a historic site. Today, the charming home hosts special events throughout the year, including old-fashioned Christmas celebrations and live bluegrass performances.
