6. Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises

BARNSTABLE.   New England's whaling past takes a different tack these days. Rather than hunting the world's largest mammals, vessels track it for the spectacle and the majesty. Whales feed at Stellwagen Bank, off the coast of Massachusetts, and whale-watching tours journey out for glimpses of the imposing creatures. Guides narrate the expedition and provide enlightening details about the marine environment. A snack bar is available on-board. Tours take about four hours, and jackets are a good idea.
