This establishment, the city's oldest, rests in the basement of the Athenaeum and serves a variety of authentic German entrees, like sauerbraten and jaegerschnitzel. The menu also offers plenty of American and Continental specialties, including steaks, seafood, pastas, and chicken and vegetarian dishes. Diners can spend their time in the main dining room, the lively Kellerbar, or the outside Biergarten. Late night menu is served in the bar. Food is available all day and night.   (© 10Best)

Disregard Negative Reviews
I am from germany and love the rathskeller. I agree there are some menu items that are not that great. However they have some of the best brats and sausages available in the city (they get them from klems). Get a brat or a wurste plate with some german potato salad and top it with 'soccer'torte for dessert. Excellent!!!! Like any restaurant, you have to know what is good and what is bad.

Fun Bar, lousy German Food
I'm guessing that no one in the Restaurant is actually from Germany or has at least lived there. The food is.... ummmm...well lets just say...awful. Fun place to drink though!! Just don't go there expecting good authentic German Cuisine. I've given it two stars for the Bar!
