Designed to protect the region from Highland aggression, Fort George was constructed in 1769. It still stands intact and is noted as one of Europe's best military strongholds. Inside are the Regimental Museum, which showcases barrack life, and the Grand Magazine, which has military arms and equipment on display. The fort was built on a peninsula on the Moray Firth.
