IOWA CITY. Interestingly, a natural disaster exposed within this park one of Iowa City's most popular visitor sites. In 1993, flood waters overtook the city's dam and washed through Coralville Park, washing away tons of soil, huge trees, and a road bed. The waters also revealed a 375-million-year-old Devonian-era sea bed, to the surprise and delight of scientists, residents and visitors. Guests can now travel back hundreds of millions of years as they leisurely stroll among newly-revealed fossils. Great adventure for all ages.
