6. The Deadwood

IOWA CITY.   Open early and open late, this place certainly doesn't lack for energy. Students stake out booths throughout the day, making Deadwood their second home, and locals hang out just as frequently, eager to engage in conversation and keep the night going strong. The bar has been hopping since the '60s and is part of the city's longtime culture. First-timers find their initiation in nightly specials and staring at the dolphin hanging from the ceiling.
