More about Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo
When you mix pearl-white beaches with the easiness of a quaint fishing village you get the relaxing beauty of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. The twin destination, located along Mexico's Costa Grande, features azure beach water, premier resort areas, old-world cobblestone streets and village charm. Ixtapa is home to ten pristine beaches along a 12-mile Pacific Coast stretch and offers a variety of water activities such as deep-sea fishing, snorkeling and parasailing. Zihuatanejo is home to five beaches and is located five miles south of Ixtapa. Zihua (as locals and tourists call it) offers a village-like feel and a pleasant view of the Sierra foothills encircling the bay. Watch the day unfold as you stroll along the Paseo del Pescador, the waterfront walkway that serves as Zihua's city center. One beach, Playa las Gatas, was originally a bathing resort of the Tarascans and is named for the small whiskered nurse sharks indigenous to the area.
