SOUTHSIDE.   If you're looking for Jax's top pie, don't be surprised if a poll of locals points you in the direction of this always-busy Southsider, where the brick ovens cook the tasty topping like mushrooms, arugula, sun-dried tomatoes and roasted peppers just right. If pizza's not your thing, they also serve up a variety of solid Italian dishes, including hearty calzones and subs.   (© 10Best)

The first time I ever had real brick oven pizza was in New York. From then on, I was hooked. Living in Florida, it's complicated if not impossible to find this type of pizza. If you've never had it and are willing to try it, Tommy Brick Oven is the place to go. I first tried Tommy's about a week ago, since then I have returned three times for more. My wife had her first brick oven pizza there, and is now just as hooked as I am. The pizza slices are Brooklyn Style, (Yes, Huge!!) and the calzones are a big size as well. I recommend the stromboli, calzone, and the sun-dried tomato pesto pie. Hands down, this is THE BEST PIZZA IN JACKSONVILLE. All served New York style, with the small tables, and the bar where you can sit and watch your pie being made. If you have young ones under 4, they have kids dishes too. My son eats the kids spaghetti, and will actually finsh it. Once more, do not be hesitant and give it a try. My sister-inlaw, (who is from Brooklyn herself) looks forward to coming here next to get hersslf another calzone. Tommy does work the kitchen and does a masterful job of greating his customers with a handshake and a smile.
