AUGUSTA. Yes, this park is named after that Custer – the one of Little Bighorn fame. Covering nearly 3000 acres of Southwestern Michigan forestland, Fort Custer was originally used as a US Army training facility but was turned over to the State of Michigan in the 1970s. Today, with three lakes, 219 campsites, and rental cabins, the park stands as one of the best places in the region to get away from it all. Boat access and fishing are permitted at Eagle Lake, and the park is open for hunting from September 15 to March 31.
