18TH & VINE HISTORIC DISTRICT.   This prestigious non-profit occupies a firehouse that was the former home of Kansas City's first African-American fire brigade. Artifacts and memorabilia from all aspects of community life – art, music, sports, religion, and more – are stored, interpreted, and displayed. The archives also puts together traveling exhibitions and hosts tours of the impressive collection. Oral histories are especially fascinating and bring the African-American experience in the Midwest to detailed life.   (© 10Best)
