MARTIN CITY – SOUTHSIDE.
This carnivore's haven is popular with folks looking for a perfect slab of succulent barbecued beef ribs. Other specialties include lamb ribs, terrific onion rings, barbecued Strawberry Hill Polish sausage, and hickory-smoked fish and seafood. Expect a wait, but know that you'll be rewarded with an excellent meal. Additional locations in Overland Park at the corner of 95th and Metcalf (913-385-7427), in downtown's Freighthouse District (814-472-7427), and at Country Club Plaza (816-531-7427).

Freight House location is beautiful
For a nicer, waited, sit down, BBQ place in downtown KC with many tables (located between Crown Cntr/Amtrack Station to S and Power & Light district to the N), this is the place. And I don't know what to call them but a stack of onion rings on a peg, but were what made my meal. Only 3 or 4 rings, but each about 1/2 an onion!

Thought about giving them three stars but they are only a let down because of my high expectations based all of the “#1” ratings they seem to get. The onion rings are excellent and large in size but I’m not sure if a single onion ring could ever live up to being priced at over a buck a ring. The sliced pork had very little smoke flavor and was a disappointment overall. They have what could be the best beans in Kansas City and really good coleslaw. The fries had the texture of the frozen variety and lacked the freshness of those at some other places. If you are looking for a very nice barbeque restaurant with a slightly corporate and upscale flair then Jack Stack’s can’t be beat. If your terminology for a barbeque establishment usually includes the word “joint” then you can find better barbeque for less money elsewhere. However you won’t have the diversity of menu selections that Jack Stack provides.
