7. Na Pali Coast and State Parknorthwestern Kauai, HI

This spectacular, most rugged terrain of Kauai is so precipitous that roads have never been built through it. Cliffs rise as sheer rock towers from the sea, and lush vegetation inundates the landscape with silent beauty. The scenery is awe-inspiring and more than worthy of exploration, although a caveat would be to exercise care in your ambition. Many folks find the hikes and excursions to be strenuous, especially in light of steep, cliffside trails, the danger of flash floods, and the ocean's unpredictable currents. Just realize those concerns, wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and be attentive. Also know that if you decide to tackle the park for more than a day, you'll need to obtain a permit and pay fees. An exhilarating experience.
