LIHUE.   Just the scent of La Bamba's authentic Mexican cuisine will have your taste buds dancing in anticipation of the good things to come. Substantial portions of all the hearty standards ensure that no one goes hungry, and you'll be hard-pressed to finish off a plate of chiles rellenos or aromatic fajitas in one sitting. It's even more trying given that all entrees come with sides of beans and rice. Still, no one complains since the abundance of food only makes the affordable prices that much nicer.   (© 10Best)

Horrible! The owner was extremely rude!!! We had a party of 6 - my mom couldn't eat the food since she has to be on a strict gluten free diet. This is common and she brought an apple with her. The owner requested that she not eat the apple! We told her we were going to leave - so we canceled our order and left! She was totally refusing to accommodate us and on top of that the restaurant only had one other table full! We have never been treated like this! Not only that, the restaurant was dirty but what do you expect!

We decided to try this after reading the previous reviews. I thought La Babma was OK, but my wife would give it zero stars if she could. The 2007 reviewer who gave it one star had some valid points. The $1.50 charge for a chip refill infuriated my wife I had noticed it in the previous review, and decided was not a big deal; but most Mexican restaurants - everywhere - give out all the chips you need w/o charge. The waitress was pleasant, but service was slow. My wife twice asked for things and then noticed our waitress apparently taking breaks while we waited. This was a bad idea on the waitresses part, since my wife was treating, and thus determined the tip. The food didn't really take all that long to arrive, My kids all had cheese enchiladas, which they liked, and I had a pretty good chicken burrito topped with cheese and ranchero sauce.. My wife didn't like the fajitas, but I tried a some and thought they were OK. Prices were good (for Kauai) - we fed family of 5 for $60. I would go there again, despite the chip charge, but my wife said "no more".

We ate here on our visit to Kauai. The food was ok at best. What really was sad, though, was that they will try to nickel and dime you to death.....you will be hit with charge if you want salsa with your chips, extra charge for additional chips (and it takes them 30+ minutes to make most dishes so you will probably want a second bowl of chips), no free fountain drink refills, charge for additional glasses of water after your first, etc.. Even by Hawaii standards, this place is overpriced and the food is honestly not that good (the fajitas are NOT authentic.....they are cooked in a ketchup based red sauce which was weird). We spent $55 on lunch for 2 adults and one infant meal.....no alcohol. We have still to find good Mexican food on Kauai.
