KEY WEST.   Louie's is a gem that locals try hard to keep secret. The food and the view make for an exquisite dinner – if you can get a reservation – or an elegant lunch. The menu changes quarterly and highlights the fish or produce that happen to be in season. The grilled catch of the day might be served with ginger butter, tomato chutney and spicy fried onions. The grilled loin of venison and the gulf shrimp in spicy cashew sauce are other house favorites. Move outside to the waterfront bar to savor post-meal cocktail. My first time at Louie's. Be sure to get reservations for outside because it is right on the water. We had very good service and the food was incredible. I suggest 2 people splitting an appetizer, salad, entree and desert because the portions are generous and prices are high. Definitely a good experience. Once you're done eating, you are just a short walk from Duval.

We never leave Key West without a fabulous dinner at Louie's backyard. We found this great spot in the early 1990's and have been back every year. The "backyard" at night is awesome (linen tablecloths and twinkle lights). The staff is friendly and patient. the wine list is great. We will be there again this Sept. (if we can get a reservation!!!) Try the local fish dish.
