JEKYLL ISLAND.   Arguably the Peach State's most written-about beach area, Jekyll, like St. Simons to the north, has for years attracted vacationers willing to splurge on life's finer pursuits. Today, a world-class tennis facility, challenging golf courses, and opportunities to sea kayak, horseback ride on the beach, fish and hunt draw an even wider spectrum of visitors. Shoppers, too, find much to their liking, thanks to high-end retailers who've set up shop at the Pier Roads Shops and in the Historic District. Even so, some things never change – among them, the island's prestige as one of Georgia's coastal gems.
