This history and art museum features six galleries, three housing permanent collections and three hosting rotating displays. The history segment showcases antique musical items, regional artifacts, and everyday items such as early settler William Bean's anvil. The arts and crafts segment includes pieces by artists like Picasso and Whistler, Counts and Chappelle. The museum also hosts a "Lunch Break" program on the third Thursday of each month. These special programs include readings from local authors and live music ranging from Appalachian tunes to jazz.

Bays Mountain Park, a 3,000-acre nature park, invites guests to enjoy the wonders of the great outdoors. To really get a feel for downtown Kingsport, stroll along the Heritage Trail – a charted course that takes you past 29 different historic sites including the Gem Theatre, old railroad buildings and a collection of antique shops. Exchange Place

Once a vital stop-off point for weary travelers, Exchange Place takes you back in time. In the early 1900s, this spot served as a horse and currency exchange station. Today, it is a testament to that era as live demonstrations of the lost arts of spinning, weaving and candle dipping are given. Visit the log house, schoolroom, smithy shop and granary. Plus, stop by the museum shop where you can purchase goods crafted by local artisans.

This restored three-story structure served as a hotel and tavern along the Great Stage Road and was frequented by stagecoachers, mail riders, pioneers and travelers. The Federal style hotel with period furnishings showcases life as it was for guests such as Andrew Jackson and James Polk. Behind the inn, children will find the Log Cabin Children's Museum, depicting the lives of children during the early 19th century.

This historic white house with its large stone chimney beckons you inside to relive the past by retracing the steps of the famous men who once called this place home. The structure was built by John Tipton, a member of the 1776 Constitutional Convention, and it was also home to Landon Carter Haynes, a noted Confederate Senator. Visitors to the grounds can explore the corn crib, still house, spring house and barn. They can also venture into the scented herb garden, the nature trails or the quirky limestone cave.
