This two-story Georgian-style home, which was built for Colonel Francis Alexander Ramsey, was the center of social, political, and religious life in Knoxville at the turn of the 19th century. Completed in 1797, the Ramsey House was the first stone house in the region. It features 18th century architectural design and period furnishings. The site includes gardens and a museum, as well. (© 10Best) The 1797 Georgian-Style Ramsey House Plantation boasts several gardens, living exhibits of horticultural heritage. Here you can see heirloom vegetables, flowers, and herbs and even buy the seeds in the gift shop. A tour starts with a short documentary about the Ramseys, who played integral roles in Knoxville's early development. Peek under the beds to learn the origins of the phrase, "Sleep tight."
