9. Sri Mahamariamman Temple

CHINATOWN.   This looming pyramid is a sight to behold. A classic South Indian Hindu temple that was originally founded in 1873 as a private shrine. The 'new' structure that we see today was consecrated in 1973, it also features gold detailing and precious stone inlays as part of the design. The tall gopuram (tower) displays dozens of exquisitely carved statues of deities from the Hindu pantheon. An ornate silver chariot, inside the temple, is paraded through the streets during the religious celebration of Thaipusam.   (© 10Best)
