8. Rudys Drive-In

This freestanding drive-in is all that remains of "Grandpa" William Rudy's original A&W Root Beer stand empire, which started back in the 1930s. Customers step back a few decades when they stop by for a bite, placing orders with carhops on roller-skates and digging into classic American fare like cheeseburgers, chili dogs, cheese fries, and onion rings. Top these off with a classic draft root beer float or a strawberry shake. On weekends, vintage cars and poodle skirts are common sights at Rudy's.   (© 10Best)

Rudy's is a warm-weather staple for the locals. It has charm, good drive-up food and fair prices. You know it's summer in La Crosse when you drive past and people are lined up to get in. Rudy's is closed in the winter, so the build-up wait for a decent chili dog is intense! Skip Coney Island; Rudy's food is worth the wait.
