LA MALBAIE.   Specializing in regional and French cuisine, this attractive yellow home is a favorite dinner destination for locals, especially if they're looking for a romantic evening out. Indeed, the dining area offers the elegant charm that one would expect from one of Charlevoix's finest: candlelit tables decorated with fresh cut flowers, exquisite silver and china, period antiques and inviting, almost rustic furnishings. The chef, who has been described as "a poet of gastronomy," enjoys a fine reputation in the region and prepares each dish using local seafood, meat and produce. In the summer, expect to find the large picture windows thrown open to allow a breeze from the Saint Lawrence to accentuate the aroma from the kitchen; on cooler evenings, the dining area is warmed by a crackling fire in the stone fireplace.
