Thick soups; heavy breads; good health and leisure.
Several times, La Maison Otis was mentioned when we said we were en route to Baie-Saint-Paul. The pics do not do it justice. It is a stately stone building in a traditional Quebecois style. Service standards are high. (Surprisingly: We met no locals at the nightly caberat performances. Local wines are unavailable during that show. Cloth napkins.) Furnishings are solid, fabrics and colours are warming. Interior lighting radiates a welcome. So very quiet and calming yet, located in the center of the village within sight of the blue hills and the river / ocean. Staff advised the grocery and the beach is far. Both are within easy view and a very short walk. Many large birds circle the town. Everything is a stroll away. We discovered a travel disc providing an independent tour of artist's homes and historiic overview. Great for a tour by car or simply an overview of history / sites / sights of the ville. You will need it- few pedestrains. No tourism office in B-S-P. Maison Otis staff is efficient and non-intrusive. Thank you to manager / artist Denis Reid for flawless translations. Lack of French is not an issue. See his airel view, oil painting of the Baie-St-Paul harbour town at the foyer. The meals are hearty and delicious. Fresh, heavy, grain bread soak up the Soups. Our waitress permitted us to take our caref of red wine to the patio and sip at our leisure. Never any hurry. Although at the junction of Saint Lawrence River and in sight of the Atlantic, seafood is sparse and meals / soups/ sauces favour beef and pork. (Not alot of chicken...) But for the dining room smells of cooking, the Maison is oderless. Parking is at the back and well-lit. Cannot imagine passage in the narrow streets in Winter. Not a sound from the street or from within the building. As advised by Manager Denis ("den-NEE") Reid, we slept with the drapes and windows open to enjoy the early morning sea scents and the view. Huge bed is a more than a sleep, at an easy height and comfortable with cotton sheets / towels. Invisible cleaning staff. We stayed 5 night sand will return to watch the change of seasons. Please stroll the town at both day and night. See the mini bridges. About 1 1/2 hours from Que City, with construction. Note: Turn off from the highway is sudden, although marked.
