LAFAYETTE. Site of some of Lafayette's most architecturally significant homes, historic Ninth Street has seen much change over its lifetime. Originally called Clark Street when the city's master plan was laid out in 1825, the southern part of the street became known as Prospect Hill, thanks to the number of wealthy townspeople who chose to build there. After a period of decline during the post WWII suburban shift, Ninth Street discovered new life when families in the latter half of the 20th century began moving in and restoring its beautiful old homes. Be sure to spend an afternoon touring this tree-lined street and admiring its exquisite Italianate, Queen Anne, and Colonial Revival homes.
