LAFAYETTE.   Featuring live jazz and blues each weekend and the popular Comedy Caravan every Tuesday (shows start at 10pm), this rustic tavern began pouring drinks way back in 1835, making it one of the state's oldest-operating watering holes. Friendly patrons and a personable staff make the place a long-standing favorite with Lafayette newcomers, and turn-back-the-clock highlights include a '50s-era jukebox and vintage framed pictures and ads. 21 and up only.   (© 10Best)

I was recently attending a huge event in downtown Lafayette. I was left in the area with only my ID and debit card. The staff allowed me to start a tab :including my cover charge. The band was "happening", the drinks were reasonabley priced, and the "regulars" made me feel very welcome. I was even given a walk ,to the block that my hotel was on, when I was ready to leave. It was nice to feel welcome and safe in an unfamiliar area. I will return to Knickerbocker on my next visit to the area!!

I was from out of town visiting friends in the area. This was one of the worst experiences I ever had at a bar. First of all the "food" tasted like it had been sitting out all day or something. I mean it isn't that hard to make pizza edible. Secondly the bartender was giving me attitude all night. It wasn't until I was leaving that she tried being nice to me. I tipped her decently because I worked in the food industry too. Anyways, after she saw I actually tipped she tried to get me to do some more shots "for the road" as she called them. I said I was driving but she still tried to get me to take shots. All in all it was a pretty lousy experience and I will never come back.
