3. Icefields Parkway

Also known as Highway 93, this expanse of road links Lake Louise to Jasper. It also winds through some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the world, including the lakes, valleys and waterfalls on the eastern edge of the Continental Divide. The road leads you through flat passes between mountains and then up the slopes themselves. Roadside stops allow you to see the beauty of the Rockies or to follow trails to other scenic sites. Not much civilization lines the road, so although the drive is eminently safe in the summer, make sure your car is in good shape and that you have plenty of gas before you depart during the winter.
