THE STRIP. The casino at the MGM Grand is more than grand – it is the largest casino-entertainment complex in the world. Encompassing four themed gaming areas (Hollywood, Emerald City, Monte Carlo, and Sports, each with distinctive decor), the casino spans 171,500 square feet, over 50,000 more than the next-largest Vegas casino. The games offered include, but are most definitely not limited to, 3700 slot and video poker machines, 76 blackjack and 15 craps tables, and 17 roulette wheels. When the Grand opened, it took 39 armored cars two days to bring in enough money to stock the casino! Also, the Grand is an ideal place for families visiting the area; the youth center, multiple showrooms, and 33-acre theme park give children plenty of opportunities for fun while parents enjoy the gaming facilities.

Features of the gaming area include over 2400 slot and video poker games, 122 table games, and a plush 300-seat, 17-screen race and sports book area showcasing the largest screens in town. All of this is surrounded by a gorgeous, exotic tropical habitat. There's also a private pit for high-priced betting. THE STRIP. Smoke, flames, and the power of Mother Nature present themselves every 15 minutes after dusk. Stop by and be entertained by the sheer magnitude of the display. The eruption contains 119,000 gallons of water per minute and is situated on three water-covered acres. Don't get too close or you could be consumed by the lava – if there were any. The display is so realistic and engrossing that you can easily lose sight of the fact that this is a man-made attraction, with no help given by Mother Nature whatsoever. Another great Las Vegas spectacle!

6. Stratosphere Tower

DOWNTOWN. A must-do! Stratosphere Tower is promoted as the "tallest freestanding observation tower" in the US and the tallest building west of the Mississippi. It stands 1,149 feet high and offers both indoor and outdoor observation decks. Unrepentant daredevils can get a "white knuckle" fix by riding any of the four thrill rides it hosts, all located 100 stories above the ground. The tower also offers a lounge, restaurants, meeting rooms and panoramic views of the Strip and the valley.

7. Fremont Street Experience

425 Fremont St, Las Vegas, NV 89101

DOWNTOWN. Occupying the portion of downtown Vegas where the city began, this pedestrian mall is more than just shopping or a simple nod to the past. The attraction in the heart of Old Vegas presents a goodly array of retail venues, restaurants, casinos, and performance stages, all of which provide welcome distraction throughout the day and night. The real draw, however, is an LED screen canopy stretched overhead the length of five football fields, 90 feet above visitors. Once twilight falls, shows and videos are broadcast larger-than-life on the screen, granting folks below a variety of entertainments that riff on the American experience, marine creatures, extraterrestrial life, and more. Music, sound, and light engulf you during the shows, which beautifully unite spectacle and technology. They take place on the hour and are absolutely free.
