Leeds purchased these 700 acres of rolling woods, lakes, and gardens in 1872 and subsequently commissioned the estate as a public park. It has recently undergone an 8.2m Heritage Lottery improvement project. Roundhay Park is a scenic haven for wildlife and humans alike. The park amphitheater hosts periodic special events, while other facilities offer tennis, skating, bowling, golfing, and fishing. There's also a café and children's playground. The highlight of the park is the new 'Tropical World,' which is a zoo and aquarium for tropical creatures. Kids will love the Butterfly House and Meerkat Enclosure, as well as the Amazon fish tank, which is cleaned once a week by a keeper in his wet suit!
