Modern visitors find a particular peace while visiting this community, whose members advocated a simple life during its 19th-century heyday. Today, the restored buildings and expansive grounds provide a glimpse of Shaker life, from clean-lined design to clever methods of doing household work. At the National Historic Landmark, visitors can view gardens, buildings, domestic goods and interiors, and watch various crafts being practiced. A riverboat ride, miles of trails, a restaurant, and guest accommodations are available as well. Twenty-five miles from Lexington.   (© 10Best)

Visit this beautiful restored village, and shop for handmade crafts in the village’s two fine retail shops near Harrodsburg, 25 miles southwest of Lexington. (from Southern Living)

I Wouldn't Stay Here . . .
Accomodations are plain. I had to drag my luggage up 3 flights of steep stairs - there was no elevator! There is no internet or cell phone access, or a simple soda machine. They'll tell you they can handle a corporate retreat but they can't. Your employees will be scattered across a few buildings. Employee socialization will be very limited. If your employees do socialize, other guests may report them as a disturbance. Shaker Village will be quick to complain to you and side with their single-room guests over their corporate multi-room guest. Upon checking in, you may luck out and get a large clean room the first time, or you may get a room with no AC or with mildew fumes!! Go somewhere else....anywhere is better than Shaker Village.

Really neat grounds and facilities. The "singing" period (I don't know what it's officially called) is quite interesting when an interpreter sings some of the songs created by the Shakers. Also, for a relaxing little cruise, check out the riverboat tour nearby.
