About 10Best's Lexington Attractions & Activities Selections:

With its civic character strongly colored by horse-racing, Lexington does a brisk business promoting the competitions, farms, and training of its equine superstars. Folks come from the world over to absorb the energy of Keeneland, catch the extensive exhibits and activities at Kentucky Horse Park, and observe the regimens and conditioning programs at the Thoroughbred Center, maybe in hopes of spotting the next big thing or picking up tips on how to identify a winner. Along with harboring an ongoing fascination with horses, the city takes great pride in its historical heritage. Famous figures like Mary Todd Lincoln and legendary politician Henry Clay once lived in Lexington, and their elegant residences are still maintained as a way for visitors to discover what life was like in past centuries. Waveland State Historic Site, too, reaches back into history to offer a glimpse of the descendants of Daniel Boone, who inhabited the impressive estate with its Greek Revival mansion. Nature in this part of the country is always on full display, and numerous parks capitalize on the gorgeous scenery and far-reaching vistas, often detailed with rambling fences and stone walls. Take the time to enjoy a horse farm tour, stroll the manicured grounds of Lexington Cemetery, or even make the trip out to Harrodsburg's Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. The latter highlights uncomplicated life in a pastoral setting and will have you longing for your own return to simpler times.

Every year when I return to Lexington, I schedule a farm tour with Thoroughbred Heritage Horse Farm Tours. This repeat experience is not a waste of time. The tours are always fresh and informative year after year. I never have the feeling that I am seeing and hearing the same tour over and over. The tours offer access to horse farm experiences that are not available privately. The staff is competent and friendly; the vans are clean and comfortable. The staff is alert to the interests of tour guests, so that each tour has a feeling of being custom-designed. Do not miss this fine opportunity.
