The small, white-painted Federal-style building that houses Metropol was built in 1825 and once served as a city post office. These days, with polished granite floors and gleaming wood trim, it's a bit more upscale but no less impressive. Named for a Swiss hotel chain, the restaurant boasts a personable staff and a menu that tiptoes between American and Continental dishes. Representative fare includes lobster ravioli, Maryland crab cakes, roasted duck, prosciutto truffle pasta, sauteed Gulf shrimp, and baby rack of lamb. A good wine list and cozy environs also go far to recommend the charming place.   (© 10Best)

This continental Italian restaurant features terrific selections in an 1825 Federal building once used as a post office. Try to sit upstairs, and order the lobster ravioli. (from Southern Living)

I love this place! Never been disappointed. Only disappointment is that I've never made it there for dinner, only lunch. The building has been beautifully restored and Metropol is a treasure in downtown.

The downtown location is great, the setting very nice, however, the food is lackluster. I have had both dinner and lunch there and each time, my meal was not worth the money spent. The Metropol does have a few perks...the bar is great, one of my favorites in Lexington, and the employees always seem to be very attentive and accommodating.

Wonderful food and fine service, if a bit pricey.
