The small, white-painted Federal-style building that houses Metropol was built in 1825 and once served as a city post office. These days, with polished granite floors and gleaming wood trim, it's a bit more upscale but no less impressive. Named for a Swiss hotel chain, the restaurant boasts a personable staff and a menu that tiptoes between American and Continental dishes. Representative fare includes lobster ravioli, Maryland crab cakes, roasted duck, prosciutto truffle pasta, sauteed Gulf shrimp, and baby rack of lamb. A good wine list and cozy environs also go far to recommend the charming place.
