The name of this shop is apt, since this interesting little shop is halfway up Steep Hill, and most people need to take a rest right about here. Inside, you'll find all sorts of interesting gift items, from nostalgic books, posters, and magnets to mini-classic books for only 50p. With more than 60,000 titles, this is a book lover's paradise, with plenty of cozy corners to get lost in.

"Aardvark avid reader"

Readers rest started me off as a true book collector. I kept finding H G Wells first editions @ £3 - £5, tucked away in a small upstairs room. Almost as if it was a C S Lewis scene, where you step into another world. Nick based his book prices on turn-over and never over-inflated prices. Because they were 1st editions, or signed you still got a price based largely on undercutting current paperback and mainstream shop prices. I loved the years I have dropped in daily, and come out with a reasonable priced rare find. And the scope of his stock, was only out weighed by the friendliness of him and his wife. Since my daughter came along, I go in less. The room upstairs, mysteriously vanished one day, and a hall took overflow opposite. I am just nipping off for a sentimental journey, myself, see you there.
