SINTRA. The lone surviving royal residence from the medieval age. The massive structure is accented by its two enormous conical chimneys. It originated in the 11th century as a Moorish palace, undergoing additions in the 15th and 16th centuries. Renowned for housing the world's greatest collection of Mudejar tiles, as well as for its beautiful hanging gardens, courtyard and chapel.   (© 10Best)
