ALFAMA. This edifice was 285 years in the making! Construction began in 1681 and was completed in 1966 following numerous delays and setbacks. The Baroque structure resembles a cross and is capped by a massive dome. Guests are permitted to visit the roof under the dome for a scenic glance at the Alfama district and the Tagus River harbor.

ALFAMA. The original building was destroyed by an earthquake in 1755, which led to the establishment of the present structure, built in the 18th century. Museum contains interesting collection of artifacts.

ALFAMA. Completed in 1627, the church is noted for its striking limestone façade, as well as for being the burial site of many Portuguese dignitaries. There's also a beautiful 18th century ivory statute of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
