  1. What would eventually become Arkansas's state capital and most important city began as a place for French explorer Benard de La Harpe to set up a supply station and fur trading post farther up the Mississippi from New Orleans. Today, Little Rock is the geographical, governmental and financial center of Arkansas.
  2. Little Rock serves as the capital of Arkansas. The capitol building, located at Capitol and Woodland Streets, is a one-quarter size replica of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The chandelier in the rotunda was made by Tiffany and Company and weighs two tons!
  3. Little Rock is home to MacArthur Park. Named for the World War II hero, General Douglas MacArthur, the park houses the Old Arsenal building where MacArthur was born.
  4. In 1957, nine African American students made civil rights history when they segregated the campus at Central High, an all-white school. Forty years later, these students were honored by President Clinton and Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee.
  5. More than 60 different religious denominations are represented in the Greater Little Rock area. Central Arkansas is located in what is known as the "Bible Belt" and has a strong religious heritage.
  6. Villa Marre, a nineteenth century Italianate home, is authentically decorated with appropriate period furnishings. The façade of the home was featured as the office for Sugarbakers in the television series, Designing Women.
  7. TCBY! This Can't Be! Yes! Little Rock is home to one of the world's fastest growing food franchises, TCBY! The TCBY Tower is the tallest building between St. Louis and Dallas.
  8. The Old Mill, located in North Little Rock, is a historic re-creation of an 1800's water powered gristmill. The mill was seen in the opening credits of "Gone with the Wind."
  9. There are 56 parks in Little Rock with more than 6000 acres! There are many state and national parks within a 60-mile radius of Little Rock, which provide recreation and camping facilities. Burns Park, located in North Little Rock, is the second largest municipal park in the nation. Only New York's Central Park is larger.
  10. The 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton, made his home in Little Rock from the 1970's until he left for the White House in Washington, D.C.!
