In 1283 during the reign of Edward I, the construction of this magnificent medieval castle began. The structure was essentially built as a means of defense from the Welsh people who strongly opposed the settling of the English colony in the town of Conwy. Today, the cellars, chapel, and towers can be toured. The magnificence of the castle perched mightily on the hills with its eight colossal towers and surrounding wall remains intimidating.
