ST. JAMES'S. This famous restaurant – run by Terence Conran, London's most well-known restaurateur – is legendary for its efficiency, its modern British and European cuisine, its roster of star visitors, and a huge staircase that lets each diner make a dramatic, sweeping entrance. Sometimes rowdy because of the large crowds, Quaglino's is a great place to see and be seen and to indulge in Modern European cooking. Crayfish cocktail is a perfect light starter, and international influences color dishes like squid with hummus and harissa. Shellfish, displayed on an overflowing "altar," are a specialty.
