COVENT GARDEN.
Originally a monastery garden and then a fruit and vegetable market, Covent Garden has been reinvented in recent decades as a shopping and tourism attraction. Saved from demolition, the main, glass-covered market building serves as the centerpiece of a revitalized piazza. These days, crowds wander the streets, browsing for clothing, antiques, crafts, books and souvenirs. Plenty of bars, restaurants and cafes cater to visitors, and talented buskers add lively ambience to the whole district. TUBE: Covent Garden

In The Market building itself is a great wine bar/restaurant named the Crusting Pipe. Okay prices and many small alcoves with small tables, sawdust on the floor with large windows looking out onto a nice sized patio with tables. In the patio area, at all hours apparently, there are always singers and small musical groups playing by the stairway for any donations anyone might want to contribute having an OK by Covent Garden, they are not bothersome. People from the upper street level are always leaning over the railing to watch and applaud. A good thing about the service at the Crusting Pipe is that it is self-Service, I like that. You walk in, choose your own table and walk over to the counter to order your glass of port (my favorite), pay right there, and carry it back to where are seated, or outside to the patio. A great place to enjoy your wine and to sit and watch all the action. I have been coming here for many years....twice a year from London, a week at a time, and most every evening before heading to the theatre.
