1. Rock & Sole Plaice

In the brief year that I lived in London I found that Rock & Sole Plaice is BY FAR the BEST fish and chips I have ever, or probably will ever, have. I was lucky that I lived a short 5 minute walk from it. ABSOLUTELY DIVINE! And the homemade tartar sauce tops it off! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Caught lunch here on a sunny Sunday afternoon in April - which is exceptional (being sunny and being open on a Sunday, that is). They offer fish in two sizes but didn't have the traditional cod in a small, so I opted for haddock. It was awesome. Saw some other folks order the large cod and it was two feet long or something so glad I didn't get it. Anyway, the fish and chips were first rate - crisp, not greasy even at the last bite. The chips were not too crisp either, which is the way I like 'em. Great service too. Go early - I was there at midday and by 1:30 it was already crowded. In addition to outdoor seating they have two floors of indoor seating.

I have had F&C at many places in London. I have found this place to be one of the best. The fish is always fresh and the oil it is cooked in is always clean and so hot (just the right temp) so that the fish is never greasy. The chips are just as well done. Eating in is great to. In the summer they have tables outside.
