This museum, which opened in 1998, is located in a former workhouse. The workhouse opened in 1840 and closed as recently as 1948. Today its exhibits cover a wide variety of subject matter. The top two floors of the museum contain former men's and women's dormitories that have been preserved "as is" for visitors to see. There are also displays focusing on the role Derry played during World War II, the Potato Famine, and the city's past social and economic hardships.
