18. Heckscher Museum of Art

HUNTINGTON.   This museum traces its history to 1920, when August Heckscher had a small Beaux Arts facility constructed to house his growing art collection, which included ancient Egyptian artifacts and works from the Hudson River School. Heckscher's acquisitions increased over the years, and today, the institute's holdings include nearly 1900 paintings, sculptures, photographs, and works on paper. The museum's collection of landscapes is widely considered among the best in the United States.   (© 10Best)
