OLD WESTBURY. Designed by Englishman George A. Crawley in 1906, Old Westbury holds claim as the finest example of landscape design on Long Island, thanks to 140 acres of magnificent formal gardens, woodland areas, ponds, and expansive lawns. All of it is centered around a lovely Charles II-style mansion that's decorated with a vast collection of period antiques. Highlights include the Primrose Path, the Rose Garden, the Thatched Cottage and Garden, and the Boxwood Garden.
