10Best's Long Island Events
-- Kim Goodin, 10Best Travel Editor
Because they're such a popular summer destinations, the villages and towns that make up Long Island find their event calendars especially full during June, July and August. Concert series and music festivals throughout the season expose crowds to Bach, Brahms, and even BTO, and there are summer festivals on Long island celebrating everything from pirates to Walt Whitman. In the autumn of the year, the Oyster Festival at Theodore Roosevelt Park is a big event, and the Hamptons International Film Festival gains in momentum and prestige each and every year. Winter may be the off-season for lots of hotels and restaurants, but the calendar's not empty thanks to events like the Charles Dickens Festival in Port Jefferson. In the spring, the Long Island Marathon and Spring Craft Beer Festival get pulses pumping (for different reasons, mind you!) as the weather begins to warm.
