2. Butterfields

HAUPPAUGE.   Hidden away in a Hauppauge industrial park, Butterfield's is one of those locals-only places that few tourists ever find out about. The casual atmosphere seems to contradict the locale, thanks to a warm decor of mustard-hued walls, interesting artwork, green columns, and tables set with burgundy linens. Dinnertime sees the kitchen serve everything from PEI mussels and garlic and tomato-crusted sea bass to hazelnut-crusted Australian rack of lamb and thyme-scented filet mignon. One of the best restaurants on Long Island; Consistently great food and very friendly service. A must if you are in the area.
