LEVITTOWN. Don't let the shopping center locale deter you from trying this Levittown fave, because folks flock to it for dim sum and other traditional Chinese eats, like General Tso's chicken, sweet and sour pork, and Peking duck. Plus, as the large saltwater tank indicates, Fortune Wheel specializes in fresh fish and seafood. A casual setting and inexpensive prices combine to make this an ideal place to bring the entire family.

MONTAUK. ENE, as regulars call it, has a status as one of Montauk's more fashionable eateries. Sleek, Eastern-influenced decor is punctuated by stained woods, earth tones, and a heavy reliance on geometric shapes, from rectangular archways and windows to curved booths and tables. A word to the wise: when you call for reservations, request a table overlooking the water – views are nothing short of stunning. Among the alluring dinner entrees are pan-roasted Alaskan halibut with yuzu truffle sauce, wok-roasted sea scallops with citrus soy sauce, and rosemary-ginger grilled porterhouse with tempura onion rings. If you arrive early, cool your heels in the comfortable bar area.

WOODBURY. The innovative fare that makes up this Eastern-inspired menu includes selections that tastefully blend the refinement of Asian cuisine with French culinary techniques. Sample menu items include filet mignon and scallops with wasabi potato spring roll, five spice grilled chicken with pad thai noodles, and charred ahi tuna with avocado and tomato wasabi vinaigrette. The atmosphere is New York-chic and full of energy, and the waitstaff radiates an offbeat demeanor. Indeed, Baang successfully blends style and substance as one of LI's more unique dining experiences.

GREENVALE. This friendly Greenvale eatery has satisfied area appetites for a number of years now, and you won't hear anything but praise from the strong contingent of regulars. The kitchen serves all the traditional suspects, from curries to pad Thai. Order with caution, though, especially if you're a newbie – Thai dishes can lean strongly to the spicy side. In 2002, the owners moved to newer, more stylish digs. Reservations are suggested but not necessary.

BAY SHORE. Thai-themed paintings and artifacts line the soft pink walls of this quaint dining room. Patrons delight in the flavorful cuisine, from start to finish. For a little bit of everything, order the appetizer assortment of fried calamari, fried wonton and shrimp in a blanket to share. Dinner specialties include the Siamese chicken, marinated in curry and served with peanut sauce, cucumber salad and rice. Seafood is prominently featured on the menu, and there are even several preparations of frog's legs from which to choose.

VALLEY STREAM. Folks living near the Queens border don't have to venture far to enjoy authentic Thai food, thanks to Seeda Thai, which draws strong reviews for tasty cuisine and terrific prices. Added pluses are a friendly waitstaff willing to go the extra yard and a subdued setting, which allows patrons to dine and chat in relative peace. Exotic fare peppers the menu – how do pan-fried frog legs, sautéed calamari with Thai basil leaves, or green curry chicken with eggplant and fresh chili sound? If you're a first-timer, have no fear: servers are more than willing to help find a dish to suit your palate.

HICKSVILLE. This fine Thai establishment is a true study of contrasts – after all, places this trendy are usually found only in the big city. The owners have gone the extra mile to give Hicksville residents a place to feel cosmopolitan while enjoying traditional Thai dishes like basil chicken with peppers, onions, and chili paste or grilled prawns Bangkok-style with a legendary chili sauce. As for decor, the main dining room features contrasting green and white tones that provide a graceful backdrop for artwork. A truly unique scene.
