GLEN COVE.   One of the best reasons to visit tiny Glen Cove is this friendly American cafe, where the staff treats everyone like neighbors and owner-chef Jeanine DiMenna routinely "makes the rounds" to see how things are going at each table. Among DiMenna's more adventurous creations are onion-crusted chicken in sherry wine sauce, hibachi-grilled salmon with Thai-spiced wasabi soy, and coconut-crusted Floribbean mahi mahi. Of course, the menu's true stars are its desserts, including sinful Belgian chocolate cake and rice pudding. Sidewalk dining is available during warmer months.
