34. Norton Simon Museum

PASADENA.   With its curved exterior and dramatic, Frank Gehry-designed interior, the building that houses this museum is a work of art in itself. The permanent collection features works from the 14th century to the present and highlights both Western and Asian artists. The former, particularly well-represented, include Louise Nevelson, Claes Oldenburg, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, Georges Braque, and Ansel Adams. The garden that surrounds the museum was inspired by Monet's at Giverny and features a large pond and sculptures. The museum also offers a café and gift shop.   (© 10Best)
