9. The Mayan

DOWNTOWN.   Built in 1927, The Mayan was originally a live theater showcase. Today, it hosts some of LA's hottest salsa parties and regularly books salsa, merengue, and Rock en Espanol bands. Architectural drama is a given in the building, which boasts a stunning Mayan theme (surprise!). Striking elements include sculpted walls, stone statues and masks, and a lively color scheme.
