Great food, quick service.
Din Tai Fung Restaurant is great. In general, the food is good. They have a tasty variety of fried rice and pad see you.

Crap Service
First of all, we got there at 2, they close in half an hour so they kept pushing us away to another location. After listening to her rude stupid comments, we sat down and ate, asked for water (which we got at the end of the meal), didn't have some what we ordered. Really? i am a chef and i don't pull this kind of crap when we almost close. I would not recommend it unless you like the abuse. It is just regular dumplings which you can get at any shanghai establishment, nothing special. The only reason why it is packed is because people swear by zagats.

Having lived in China and eaten at just about every dumpling house in LA, I can say that Din Tai Fung is an Asian eating experience unmatched for quality and simplicity in LA. I have been eating here for the past 7 years. It would be difficult to find better dumplings anywhere, except maybe in Taiwan, where the restaurant was started many years ago. The dumpling are plain and simple, but the quality of ingredients and the preparation are second to none. The wonton soup is a great starter. Basic fried rice with shrimp is incredible in its simplicity and very fresh ingredients. The service is always helpful, the decor is neat and the place is always clean. Who knows, you may even spot the occasional Chinese moviestar dining at this jewel of a spot.
