MANHATTAN BEACH.   On a sunny day, you could almost believe that it's the Aegean Sea that rests just outside this beachfront eatery. Inventive Petros combines classic Greek flavors with a wider Mediterranean sensibility. Consider dishes like kokkinisto (beef short ribs braised in tomato sauce and served over spaghetti) or lemon-tinged shrimp and chicken souvlaki. For dessert, it's hard to resist bougatsa – vanilla bean and semolina custard wrapped in filo and served with cinnamon ice cream.
