The concept is simple: just step up to the counter and place your order for fish taquitos, classic fish-n-chips, peel-and-eat shrimp, or fresh Maine lobster. A market-style atmosphere pervades, which is appropriate since the place doubles as a real fish and seafood market. Patrons expecting white linens and fine china should prepare themselves for a slightly more casual affair – yes, those are picnic tables. I've been going to this place since 1980. I live out of state now but whenever I'm in L.A. I try to get out to Malibu for the fish n' chips and shrimp sandwiches. Once met an English guy who thought Malibu Seafood's fish n' chips were lousy. Then he took me to an English place in Santa Monica which he said had the "authentic thing" and it [was horrible]! And so I guess it's a matter of experience. I'm an American coastal person and Malibu Seafood gets my good vote everytime.
